Oleander (Nerium oleander)

"Witches'-Broom" Disease
Caused by fungal organism, Sphaeropsis
tumefaciens.

Oleanders are very susceptible to this fungal
infection.  This privacy hedge is dying.  There
is no preventative or curative treatment. Clean and sanitize pruning equipment before pruning
asymptomatic oleanders, and after pruning those that are infected. Other highly susceptible plants that are easily infected through contaminated pruning tools are:
Hollies (including native Dahoon Holly)
Bottlebrush Trees
Citrus
Southern Wax Myrtle

Close up of a "witches'-broom" on this dying privacy hedge. A proliferation of shoots emerges from small galls that developed at a pruning point.
